I always forget about the breadth of games Sega makes and publishes. Some of the best modern RPGs in Persona and Yakuza, top-of-the-line strategy games with Total War, and iconic platformers with Sonic the Hedgehog. So with Metaphor: ReFantazio and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii firmly on the way, there’s still plenty to get stuck into. If you’ve got some gaps to fill then, or just fancy checking out some games you’ve never played, this new Sega Humble sale has everything you need.
Humble’s Sega deals are wide-reaching, so I wholly advise you check everything out for yourself. That said, between the RPG, strategy, and platformer offerings, there are a few I can’t help but wax lyrical about.
Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal are some of the best role-playing games I’ve ever experienced. Yes, they’re incredibly long, but I’ve never been much of a turn-based fan and both managed to dig their claws in me. Fights are fluid and incredibly engaging, getting to know characters over the course of months is a treat, and don’t forget the style. Both games have some of the most beautiful UI you’ll ever lay eyes on, and it ties the entire presentation together. Then Atlus puts a musical bow on top, and you become obsessed.
As PCGamesN’s resident Sonic fan, I’d be remiss to not mention the blue blur. Between Sonic Superstars, Frontiers, Origins, the Adventure games, and Mania there’s an awful lot on offer. While some of the older games have fixer-upper PC ports, Sonic Adventure 2 is worth the $5 you’ll pay for it. Jun Senoue’s soundtrack is unmatched, the Sonic and Shadow levels are a joy to replay for faster times, and there’s also an entire pet simulator baked in.
Then there’s Vanquish. For $6 you can snag one of the most fantastic but oft-forgotten seventh-generation shooters. Developed by PlatinumGames (famous for Bayonetta, Nier: Automata, and Metal Gear Rising) this is an action game masquerading as a shooter. You could sit behind cover, but Vanquish wants you to rocketslide around on your knees, leap over waist-high walls, and blast colossal enemies in slow motion.
