What are the Black Ops 6 maps? The multiplayer experience, especially in Call of Duty, hinges on a few key factors: the feel of the guns, the quality of the movement, and how good the maps are. The maps on offer with each CoD release can turn it from a dud to an instant classic, with several old-school maps finding their way into each release due to their popularity.
We’ve been given a sneak peek at what’s to come, and even though the Black Ops 6 release date is still a ways away, we’ve got the 16 confirmed multiplayer maps for CoD at launch. The development team went into some detail about how they want these maps to feel, and their mindset behind what they hope will be an FPS game classic.
Black Ops 6 maps
We know that there will be 16 maps available with the Black Ops 6 launch; 12 of these will be standard 6v6 multiplayer fare, with the rest designed as Strike maps. Strike maps, we’re told, are smaller, faster-paced maps, that can be played in 6v6 and 2v2 mode.
All of the confirmed Black Ops 6 multiplayer maps are:
- Babylon – 6v6
- Derelict – 6v6
- Lowtown – 6v6
- Payback – 6v6
- Protocol – 6v6
- Red Card – 6v6
- Rewind – 6v6
- Scud – 6v6
- Skyline – 6v6
- Subsonic – 6v6
- Vault – 6v6
- Vorkuta – 6v6
- Gala – Strike
- Pit – Strike
- Sand House – Strike
- Stakeout – Strike
The 8 maps available during the Call of Duty beta are:
Babylon
- Playable during the second beta weekend
- Core 6v6
Throughout Babylon you’ll battle through an ancient city and its ruins, using partially destroyed columns for elevation, or crawling through holes beneath what once was a palace. Verticality is widely on offer, so use it to your advantage to get an early eye on the enemy. To conceal yourself more, use the chapel or depot. If you’re feeling brave though, rush the center of the map for some heated action.
Derelict
- Playable during both beta weekends
- Core 6v6
Derelict is located deep within the Appalachian Mountains, and is littered with the corpses of trains. It’s long been abandoned, meaning there are plenty of forgotten areas to conceal yourself in.
Rewind
- Playable during both beta weekends
- Core 6v6
Another of the Core 6v6 maps, Rewind is situated within the Liberty Shopping Plaza, right by Liberty Falls in West Virginia. A traditional American strip mall, Rewind has a unique layout which sees its two outer lanes connected by a plethora of different possible routes through and around its stores. There’s a video store in the middle that will be the home to most of Rewind’s major objectives, and is bound to be a hotspot for activity.
Scud
- Playable during both beta weekends
- Core 6v6
Scud is located within a desert’s military outpost following a huge and devastating attack. There’s a heavily damaged radar dish, and the nearby buildings have taken a battering, too. The air is thick with smoke, affecting visibility. You can safely hunker down in the depot or headquarters, or choose to use the trenches to your advantage to flank enemies. There will be snipers near the radar dish as its base provides an almost 360-degree view.
Skyline
- Playable during both beta weekends
- Core 6v6
The Skyline is a luxury resort with astoundingly beautiful views from its rooftop. Located within the countryside, Skyline has a vast penthouse with lounge, kitchen, gym, and pool. There’s a panic room below the penthouse, of course, which you can use to dart across the map, covering huge area with less potential of being seen in the open.
Gala
- Playable during both beta weekends
- Strike
The first of the strike maps, Gala, sees you dropping in to the aftermath of an annual fundraising event in Washington, D.C. You can choose to utilize the stage to your advantage, or hide in the corners of the lounge. Around the sides of the map, there’s a makeshift bar, coatroom, and campaign stand to use as cover. This map is tiny, and every move counts, so plan your next move wisely.
Pit
- Playable during both beta weekends
- Strike
The Pit is a subsection of an underground mining tunnel, and again leaves a lot to be desired in terms of available space. You can use the tunnels or the central, more open cave for combat, although the only light to be found here comes from an open ventilation shaft. You can find a vantage point overhead by using the ladders scattered around, or if you prefer to stay grounded, use the mine carts for cover.
Stakeout
- Playable during the second beta weekend
- Strike
Stakeout is only available during the open beta weekend, the second of two betas that run before the game is fully released. The Mediterranean region of Avalon has been compromised by Operators, and you’ll need to fight your way through the living room, kitchen and bedrooms before making your way to the balcony. Surveillance equipment that has been abandoned here will give an indicator toward progress of intel gathering, while a broken down wall gives an additional cover area.
Protocol
- Playable during both beta weekends
- Training map
Protocol is where you’ll get to grips with the new systems in Black Ops 6, including Omnimovement. If this is your first time in any Call of Duty game, head to Protocol to get hands on with Operators, get used to the game, and let off a few practise shots. Of course, Frank Woods will be there to talk you through it all in curated training missions, too. Thanks, Frank.
The dev team wants to cater to all levels of players, creating classic three-lane maps that can accommodate a natural flow of battle, serving an exciting experience for new players and hardened veterans alike. They have also confirmed that many of these maps will take place in key locations from the campaign, set after the single-player action has taken place.
If players complete the campaign before jumping into multiplayer, they should already have a feel for each of these locations, reducing the potentially frustrating onboarding that can occur when trying to learn a new space. Couple this with the familiarity with the new Black Ops 6 equipment, and players should be good to go once they complete the story.
