When is Minecraft Live 2024? Minecraft Live is a twice-annual livestream event hosted by members of the Mojang team to inform the community about the latest goings on, development updates, and more. The event is always a huge date among the Minecraft community, so we’re always looking forward to the next one.
Each year before now, usually around the Summer, a brand-new, epic update has come to everyone’s favorite sandbox game, and undeniably one of the best PC games of all time, Minecraft. In recent years, that update has been announced during Minecraft Live. Now, things are ramping up with two of these events a year, so here’s what we know about how that impacts the Minecraft calendar and when this year’s event takes place.
When is Minecraft Live 2024?
Minecraft Live 2024 is taking place on September 28, 2024, at 10am PDT, 1pm EDT, 6pm BST. This comes after an announcement that there will now be two Minecraft Live events each year.
In a blog post on September 9, 2024, titled “The future of Minecraft’s development“, Mojang dropped a bomb on the community by announcing changes to the current update structure and calendar, as well as a move to two Minecraft Live events a year. This is all good news, as it just means more content at more regular intervals.
It does, however, spell the end of large annual updates, which might be good or bad, depending on how you feel about it. Personally, we loved looking forward to the huge content drop each year, and speculated that the next would be a long-awaited End update. However, we can’t say that more content throughout the year is a bad thing.
This has already been tested since last year’s event with an update in December 2023 which turned decorated pots into functional storage, followed by the Armored Paws update that brought armadillos and wolf armor to the game. Now, a year in Minecraft is going to look more like that, with these smaller content updates announced during the two more concise Minecraft Live events.
How to watch Minecraft Live
Minecraft Live streams live on Twitch and YouTube, and highlights from the show will be available on YouTube to watch after the show ends.
Watch live on Twitch on the official Minecraft Twitch channel, or on the official Minecraft YouTube channel. You can set a reminder for the latter. You can still watch clips from last year’s show to see what might be in store in 2024.
Minecraft Live mob vote
The Minecraft mob vote is not happening in future Minecraft Live shows, with the 2023 vote – won by the Minecraft Armadillo – being the last.
The Minecraft mob vote has been a bone of contention for the last few years. In 2020, the Minecraft glow squid won the vote, but many thought this decision was unfair since Dream – who had a huge following at the time – asked his fans to vote for the squid. Many thought this swayed the voting in his favor and was thus rigged.
Since then, many have complained about the Minecraft Live mob vote, despite it being arguably the most popular part of the show. Another reason many players have fought against the vote, including signing a mob vote petition in 2023, is because they feel one new mob a year isn’t enough, and there is no reason all three new mobs couldn’t be added – or more.
Whatever the reason, whether it’s one of these or something we aren’t privy to, the Minecraft Live mob vote is no more.
Minecraft Live 2023 announcements
Minecraft 1.21 update
In celebration of the game’s 15th anniversary, the 2023 show gave us some big reveals, which later overhauled the base game. Originally labelled the Vanilla update, Minecraft 1.21 received new, procedurally generated underground structures, Trial Chambers, housing new mob spawners and a new Minecraft mob, The Breeze.
This 2023 announcement also brought new automation to crafting with The Crafter, a new redstone crafting table which can be hooked up to a redstone trigger to craft and pump out items automatically.
Star Wars Path of the Jedi DLC
Star Wars returned to the blocky world of Minecraft in another official DLC. This time though, there’s more than ever to experience in this new intergalactic RPG experience as you step into the shoes of a young padawan and embark on your training to become a fully fledged Jedi Knight. The Path of the Jedi Minecraft DLC arrived in the Minecraft Marketplace on November 7, 2023.
Planet Earth III Minecraft DLC
We’ve seen crossovers with Minecraft and the BBC Planet Earth series before, and the release of the Planet Earth III series probably won’t be the last. The DLC was made available for free for Minecraft Education edition and for Bedrock edition via the Minecraft Marketplace.
So that’s everything from last year, and what we know about what’s to come from Minecraft Live 2024. When new features first come to the building game, they get rolled out via Minecraft snapshots, so be sure to familiarize yourself with how to load into experimental worlds.
