What are the best healing gourds, drinks, and soaks in Black Myth: Wukong? These crucial items act like flasks in Dark Souls, healing you in the heat of battle. Black Myth: Wukong healing gourds and soaks are scattered throughout the game, often found inside kettles or containers. Some can be found in Shen the Monkey’s store in the Marsh of White Mist.
The more you battle Black Myth: Wukong bosses, the more damage you are likely to take, and even with the best Black Myth: Wukong armor, you’re still going to need the assistance of healing. But should you prioritize pure health refills or other coexisting abilities, and what are the best to find and equip? We’ve scoured Black Myth: Wukong to find the best healing items.
Open the Brew menu in-game to see all of the flasks/gourds you have unlocked so far. Your gourd is the equipment which determines how many charges, or sips, you have by default. Drinks provide a base effect, usually related to the amount of healing you’ll receive and/or a buff to a particular statistic(s). Each drink has a number of available slots, in which you can socket a soak. Soaks provide secondary effects that are activated when you take a sip from your flask.
To upgrade your gourds, head to Shen the Monkey’s shop in the Marsh or White Mist (or the Painted Realm when you’ve unlocked that). You’ll need Loujia Fragrant Vines to upgrade your gourd, or Awaken Wine Worms to upgrade your drinks. Upgrading will increase the number of slots or the healing properties available.
The best healing items in Black Myth: Wukong are:
Trailblazer’s Gourd
One of the best gourds in the early chapters of Black Myth: Wukong is the Trailblazer’s Gourd. This can be obtained as a bonus for purchasing the deluxe edition of the game. It can’t be upgraded, but it does provide an additional usage, and the first sip ignores percentage thresholds to give you a maximum health restoration. This means you can fight to the bare bones of your HP, take the first sip, and be fully healed and ready to continue in battle.
When used correctly, this is equivalent to an additional sip from the gourd. Only when reaching the game’s later chapters will you be able to upgrade other healing items to a greater potential than the Trailblazer’s Gourd, making it an almost essential item for the early game.
Medicine Buddha Gourd
The Medicine Buddha Gourd is the fully upgraded version of the one you start off with at the beginning of the game. Sometimes sticking with what you know serves you well, and this gourd is evidence of that. When fully upgraded you can use it a huge nine times, and combined with a good drink it will see you through any fight without the worry of imminent death.
There are sometimes circumstances when using something like the Multi-Glazed Gourd would be more efficient, and you can obtain that from the Monkey’s shop in the Marsh of White Mist. That Gourd grants a significant boost to your attack when consuming its final sip, but has less uses and should be only considered if you’re really smashing through the game easily.
18-Year-Old Coconut Wine
Similar to the Medicine Buddha Gourd, Coconut Wine is a simple but effective drink that prioritizes health recovery above anything else, but also offers significant upgrades that boost the regeneration percentage above 30%. After its fifth upgrade, Coconut Wine offers 46% health recovery.
While it can be upgraded further, the Awaken Wine Worm is the same upgrade item used for other drinks and upgrades. This tier of Coconut Wine balances effectiveness with the resources necessary to upgrade it without diminishing potential other upgrades for healing items. Only upgrade this beyond its fifth tier if you have plentiful resources, as they can be hard to come by.
A Thousand Days Inebriation
A Thousand Days Inebriation can be bought from the Marsh of White Mist store, and possesses the greatest health recovery of any drink in the game, at 60%. It also has three soak slots to enhance the drink further. Its downside is that you’re temporarily stunned for up to two seconds after drinking it, due to the potency of the alcohol. Provided you can find a safe haven to recuperate before swinging another attack, A Thousand Days Inebriation is worth the risk-reward.
Celestial Lotus Seeds
You can buy Celestial Lotus Seeds from the Marsh of White Mist store. These seeds boost the health recovery from your drink, resulting in a total of 5-10% additional health regeneration. It can be the difference between life and death when heavy attacks are rolling in constant succession.
Purple-veined Peach Pit
The Purple-veined Peach Pit is found in a chest within the temple in the fourth chapter, just after speaking to the mysterious lady. It can double the number of goard uses when activated at the opportune moment, making it a vital soak. You should consider infusing it in every drink after you’ve obtained it.
This soak massively increases health recovery when used at critical health, giving an almost 30% increase above a standard heal. Most drinks heal between 30-50%, so this is a notable increase. It does require a strategy laden with risk, as you need to reach critical health for it to activate, but the greater regeneration provides more room for error.
