How do you beat Black Bear Guai in Black Myth Wukong? In a game filled with daunting enemies, Black Bear Guai is most likely going to be your first big roadblock. This black grizzly bear may start off slow, but things really start to heat up once you enter the second phase of the fight.
Black Bear Guai is just one of the Black Myth Wukong bosses you’ll encounter in the action game, and trust us when we tell you that these boss fights at the end of each chapter will give you some trouble. Black Myth Wukong gives you the opportunity to farm for experience points ahead of each boss fight, but no matter what level you are, you shouldn’t have any issues if you follow our guide.
Black Bear Guai recommended skills
By the time you reach the end of the first chapter, you’re most likely going to be around level 20 or so. We recommend getting to at least level 15 at a bare minimum for this fight. Due to the miniscule number of sparks we have to spend, we have to pick our skills carefully. Remember, if you want to change your skills at any time, you can respec for free.
Here are the skills we recommend using to beat Black Bear Guai:
- Immobilize – Crash (2/2)
- Immobilize – Evanescence (1/1)
- Immobilize – Stagnation (2/2)
- Immobilize – Easy Prey (1/1)
- Foundation – Simian Agility (1/2)
- Foundation – Deft Evasion (1/1)
- Foundation – Endurance (1/2)
- Foundation – Everlasting Vigor (1/1)
- Foundation – Composure (1/1)
- Foundation – Bold Move (1/2)
- Foundation – Ephemeral Shadow (1/1)
- Foundation – Vengeful Mirage (1/1)
Though we only get to use Immobilze twice, it’s important to fill up the spell’s skill tree as these moments will be vital when it comes to dealing serious damage to Black Bear Guai. The rest of our sparks should go on improving our stamina, ensuring we never have to worry about performing too many dodges. You won’t have too many options when it comes to picking equipment, but you should have several spirit summons to pick from. Our favorite out of the bunch is Guangmou, capable of poisoning Black Bear Guai using venom-spitting vipers.
How to beat Black Bear Guai
You’re able to start pummeling Black Bear Guai as soon as you enter the arena. Don’t worry about being attacked immediately, he always begins the fight with a roar. If you stay close to him, you can hurt him with light attack strings before he gets down on all fours and teleports away. While it might seem like a good idea to transform into a Wolf to set the Bear’s fur on fire, we must warn you not to do this, as you could trigger its second phase right away. This makes the fight considerably harder, so unless you’re looking for a challenge, wait until the Bear triggers this form later on.
Black Bear Guai will teleport back into the arena, launching forward with a fierce swipe that can delete a third of your health bar. Try to dodge into the Bear’s attack so that he ends up in front of you, giving you the perfect opportunity to dish out some damage. The Bear is awfully slow in his first phase, requiring a decent amount of time before he can recover to briefly retreat. During this window, the Bear will take a moment to jump away from you, before working up the courage to stand on his feet and attempt to swipe at you again, this time attacking the ground. After you dodge out of the way, spend any focus points you have using a heavy attack. While he’s still recovering from his attack, continue to hurt him with light attack combos.
During the Bear’s first phase, you need to capitalize on its lengthy recovery animations as it usually requires a lot of time before launching into another attack. When it teleports a second time, the Bear is going to jump back onto the battlefield before unleashing a two-hit swipe combo. Dodge into the Bear so he ends up dashing beyond you, right before he jumps into the air again to perform a body slam. Again, attacking during the recovery window is key, but watch out for his next attack where he body slams the ground again as soon as he stands up.
Following his body slams, he’s going to teleport again, this time starting with a two-hit swipe into a leaping attack. Every time the Bear attempts to hit you with a body slam, he will take an age to get back up, so save your focus points to smash him with heavy attacks. With just under half of his health remaining, the Bear is going to slam his fists into the ground, covering its paws in fire. It also causes several geysers made of fire to sprout up across the battlefield, instantly burning you if you stand in them for longer than a second.
In this fiery paws form, the Bear is capable of dishing out more damage before, so it’s vital to save your Cloud Mist Black Myth Wukong spell for moments where you really feel like you’re in trouble. We recommend saving enough mana to use this ability twice, specifically while the boss is in its second phase as you can lose a lot of health in a short amount of time.
Right after activating this form, the Bear is going to phase in and out of the battlefield. Unlike last time, this has the potential to burn you if you take damage. Luckily, this attack is fairly easy to avoid, especially now that the black mist is on fire. While the bosses’ attack patterns don’t change too much, with the fire surrounding the arena, it’s easy to get hit by an attack, only to find yourself on top of a burning pile of rubble that deals additional damage. If you do happen to take an unexpected blow from the stage or the boss, Cloud Mist removes the burning status to stop you losing health.
You only have enough mana to activate Immobilize twice, and with that in mind, you need to save it for the bosses’ second phase as it’s harder to deal damage to the Bear during this time. Make sure you utilize your Guangmou Black Myth Wukong spirit to inflict poisonous damage within a few seconds. Likewise, we recommend saving your transformation spell so you can maximize the amount of time spent in Wolf form. If you find yourself losing a lot of health while in this form, you can hang back and wait for moments to strike using your lunging heavy attack. This will drain your stamina faster, but it’s a safe way to deal consistent damage.
Black Bear Guai rewards
When you finally take down Black Bear Guai, you’re rewarded with the following items: Craving Eyes, Flame Ebongold, Yarn, Silk, Yaoguai Core, Stone Spirit, and Mind Core. Craving Eyes is a Relic, a special item that allows you to activate one of three passive bonuses.
