What is the Warframe 1999 release date? The ’90s were a breathtaking time to be alive. Full of change, the promise of a new millennium, and loads of fear about the computerized end of all things, which was only narrowly avoided by a ton of hard work by programmers. If you want to go back there, or never experienced that decade at all, Warframe 1999 will give you a taste of the last century.
Warframe 1999 has been on the horizon since Tennocon 2023, with plenty of hints dropping about what shape the story will take and who we’ll encounter on our time-hopping journey. Now the lid has been lifted on what we can expect in the free PC game when 1999 hits. Read on to find out everything you need to know about Warframe 1999, including that all-important release window.
Warframe 1999 release date window
Warframe 1999 will be released in Winter 2024. The launch window was revealed by developer Digital Extremes at Tennocon 2024.
This alternate-history take on the ‘90s sees you hunting down the infamous Dr. Entrati accompanied by six retro Protoframes. All of which you can interact with through an old-school messaging system, which may also lead to a little romance.
Opposing you will be the deadly Infested Liches, a long-teased enemy that has taken the form of the most deadly thing from the ‘90s – a boy band. Titled ‘Technocyte Coda,’ this team of Liches has copied the famous (in this universe) group On-Lyne, a band you may have seen in the background of some previous teasers for the expansion.
In addition to the details released about Warframe 1999’s launch window, developer Digital Extremes also announced a prologue quest that will bridge the gap between the end of the current storyline and the start of the expansion. Titled ‘The Lotus Eaters,’ it’s set after ‘Whispers in the Walls’ and promises to reunite players with one of the most popular characters in the game’s setting.
Warframe 1999 trailer
Warframe 1999 has so far had one official trailer which aired at Tennocon 2024. The gritty, 1:27-long sneak peek at the new expansion opens with some frenetic quick cuts between Arthur’s motorcycle, the Hex leader fighting a proto-infested, and a clash between himself and Excalibur. We also get to hear snippets of On-Lyne’s ‘Party of Your Lifetime’ throughout.
The trailer also properly introduces Major Neci Rusalka, who treats Arthur to a throw down with an H-04 Efervon Tank. How, uhh, kind of her… Just as the trailer ends, what appears to be one of the Infested Liches drops out of some sort of plant, presenting its grotesque, vine-y form.
Warframe 1999 gameplay
Digital Extremes also showed off gameplay at Tennocon 2024, giving us a better look at the gorgeous architecture that will undoubtedly be destroyed with great prejudice. We’re also introduced to all the members of The Hex: Amir Beckett, Aoi Morohoshi, Eleanor Nightingale, Leticia Garcia, and Quincy Isaacs.
The gameplay demo also shows off Arthur’s riding skills as he zooms through the streets. At one point he flies up a ramp, performing a barrel roll in midair before landing, sweet. The demo further expands on the tank fight shown in the trailer, and we can see Arthur space-ninjaing his way around the arena while taking it apart piece by piece.
After some spooky dialog, Arthur meets Excalibur, and the two clash, seemingly ending the demo. However, Digital Extremes offers up a ‘one more thing’ moment, transporting Excalibur back to its Railjack. Once Excalibur blasts some infested music towers that are jamming Cephalon Cy’s instruments, he infiltrates a stadium. It’s here that DE reveals the Gemini Series cosmetics that will let you switch between Protoframe and Warframe skins. Neat.
Warframe 1999 new features
Headlining the new Warframe 1999 goodies is a brand-new Warframe by the name of CYTE-09, which is set to land when 1999 launches. This marksman will lend his sharpshooting skills to your team, and will even accompany you back into the current timeline. Most remarkable is this Warframe’s sense of style, sporting the most snazzy beret we’ve seen outside a French fashion shoot.
There’ll also be the aforementioned new Gemini Series skins, weapons, and mounts. This includes the Atomicycle, a new way to get around which you can also rig as a makeshift explosive, should you need the extra firepower.
